Tax Credits
Available For Home Improvements
On February 17, 2009, The Stimulus Bill
(The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) was signed into
law. It made some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax
credits available to homeowners. A significant, immediate benefit of
the ARRA is the Energy-Efficient Home Improvements Tax Credit. This tax
credit, equal to up to All Homeowners. Must be for taxpayers principal
residence. Existing homes only. No new construction. Property must be
ready and available for use between 1/1/2009 and 12/31/2010. Maximum
amount of tax credit is 30% of all costs incurred up to $1,500 in 2009
& 2010.
For record keeping, save your receipts and the Manufacturer
Certification Statement, OR for windows, you can save the ENERGY STAR
label from your new windows. Improvements made in 2009 will be claimed
on your 2009 taxes (filed by April 15, 2010) Use IRS Tax Form 5695
(2009 version) — available late 2009 or early 2010.
You can save money on their taxes while they improve
the energy-efficiency of their home. 30% of all costs incurred by
the taxpayer, up to $1500, for energyefficient home improvements, such
as installation of energy-efficient windows, doors and insulation, is
being made available now to those who qualify.
